Post-COVID Safety Measures for IT Techs

With more organizations returning to the office, IT techs will likely resume their regular work, which involves close contact and the touching of many surfaces. Here are some safety measures to keep you and your fellow employees safe.

Keep the mask on

Stay masked during all interactions. Even if you’re working on equipment for someone else at your space, keep your nose and mouth covered. The exact infection rate from surfaces is still unknown, but since the virus can live on plastic for up to three days, better safe than sorry.

Don’t forget to disinfect

Don’t forget to wipe everything down after you’re done in an area, even your own. Touching of surfaces increases the likelihood of cross-contamination, so sanitizing workspaces is vital. Before you enter a workspace and when you leave, be sure to sanitize.

Wash your hands frequently

Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Don’t touch any part of your face at any time, but especially with dirty hands.

Distance when you can

Try remote logins to correct issues on your co-workers’ computers or ask them to leave their workspace while you are there. The natural inclination is to be close to see what you’re doing, but the more space they can provide, the better.

Give yourself space to cough and sneeze properly

If you are in another space, give yourself additional distance before coughing or sneezing into your elbow. Even using your elbow could still cause some droplets to get in unwanted places, so don’t take the chance.

Don’t come into the office if you’re sick

This is a no-brainer, but if you have any symptoms or aren’t feeling well, take the day instead of thinking you’re fine and bringing the virus to your co-workers.
